Quality of riparian habitat (vegetation along waterways) is important for fish ecology (available food, shelter, breeding areas, etc ...). Riparian forest in four rivers that hosts Prespa trout, a species endemic to the Balkans, were studied. Differences in habitat quality are discussed in terms of parameters such as halting grazing by sheep and goats, forestry, the protection status ... And below 900 meters, where human activities are strong, vegetation is very different with exotic species and a less extensive riparian forest. It is suggested that conservation efforts are primarily focused on the lower parts of rivers where human activities limit the riparian forest and the host of wildlife.
