Brain cancer mortality rates increase with Toxoplasma gondii seroprevalence in France

Published the 31/03/12

Article on the correlation between brain cancer and infection by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii in France. A positive correlation between mortality from brain cancer and seroprevalence of T. gondii has been demonstrated across the 22 French regions for individuals aged 55 and over. This statistical association does not necessarily mean a causal link. However, such a correlation has been observed in a previous study, these results suggest the need to develop research at the individual level to understand the mechanisms that might be involved.
