Low survival after release into the wild: assessing “the burden of captivity” on Mallard physiology and behaviour

Published the 09/02/12

This article deals with the impact of release of Mallards from breeding for hunting. The results show that ducks from breeding are never able to achieve a body condition as good as wild ones. Furthermore survival is very low among ducks from breeding, especially during severe winter. Very few ducks from breeding have the opportunity to breed and genetic pollution of wild strains is still low.
